Robots Now Dealing Blackjack

(Singularity Hub) - Here’s one dealer that won’t attempt to cheat you with sleight of hand – because it doesn’t have any, strictly speaking. More like bulbs with suction cups.

Yaskawa Motoman Robotics showed off their their blackjack-dealing, dual-arm SDA10F robot – or, “Dexter Bot” – at last month’s Automate 2013 in Chicago. It dealt while attendees played. It uses Cognex 2D vision guidance to read the cards, a task you want to get right if you’re a dealer, especially at the higher stakes tables.

With over 230,000 robots installed worldwide, Yaskawa’s Motoman robots do everything from painting, to spot welding, even handing out ice cream – pretty much any job that requires two hands.

Monster 350-Pound RB Has Serious Wheels, Earns Scholarship With Hawaii

(Yahoo) - It’s not particularly surprising that David Fangupo is a Division I college football recruit. After all, the Kailua-Kona (Hi.) Kealakehe High senior stands 6-foot-2 and roughly 350 pounds … before a big meal. What is surprising is that he is expected to play running back starting next year at his home state’s largest university, with Fangupo agreeing to sign a national letter of intent with Hawaii once he is academically cleared to do so.

Yet, as the video above shows, there’s a reason why Fangupo was recruited as a running back. The big beefy teen can really move once he gets through the line of scrimmage. Like a supersized Jerome Bettis, once Fangupo gets going downhill, he’s just not going to be brought down.

“I felt like it was not real at the moment,” Fangupo told West Hawaii today. “I’m excited and feel blessed that [Hawaii would offer Fangupo a scholarship].

“It’s just pretty much playing for my home team and family and being around people I know. It goes from going to home [on the Big Island] to home again. All the support from my family is still there.”

(RT.com) Despite a winning display by the men's world champion, two women kickboxers had the most spectacular bout of the W5 Fighter tournament in Moscow. Kickboxing fans witnessed a treat at the seventh edition of the international W5 Fighter series.

In the first of the night's three main events, Russia’s Natalia Diachkova topped Slovakian Kristina Landtnerova on a point decision, despite fighting at what she said was less than her best.

World and European Muay Thai Champion Ekaterina Vanderieva stole the limelight, proving her dominance against fellow Slovakian Mihaela Bonchakova.

The Belarusian was in control from the start, but despite heavy pressure Bonchakova managed to hold on until the end. Vanderieva won all three rounds on the score card, adding yet another victory to her name.

In the final fight of the night, former world champion Vladislav Koshel blitzed Netherlander Leandro Tam of the Netherlands. Tam was saved by the bell in the first round, but the Ukrainian finished him off early in the second.
